From the book “Buddha Is as Buddha Does” by Lama Surya Das, we learn that the ” Bodhisattva Code’s call to be generous, which is its very first instruction, asks us to stretch our arms, hearts and minds, holding nothing back”.  He guides us that “We must also remain mindful of the full spectrum of generosity that human beings are capable of experiencing. When we do this, we not only draw steady inspiration from examples of great generosity but also avoid overlooking the countless small opportunities to be generous that present themselves every day”.

“Without exception,

All suffering comes from wanting happiness for yourself.

Perfect Buddhas are born from wishing to benefit others.”

-NGULCHU THOGME (14th Century, Tibet)

For us on a daily basis, this all boils down to:

“If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.

If you want to be happy, practice compassion”.

May your generosity be visible on a daily basis and may your heart be full.

Om Shanti,
